Happy New Year! 08 recap

Happy New Year!!

Due to life in general, I have not kept up with my blogs in the last month or so. I have been keeping up with my fellow blogger's deals and I am SO thankful for discovering these blogs. It has made a HUGE difference.

I did not do grand totals etc, because my sweet hubby actually crunches all the numbers in our accounts, but here are some goals we reached due to couponing and financial principles we are learning.

1.) New Family Car!
It is a 2001 gold Honda Accord (fully loaded)! I had been driving my faithful 2 door car that I got in 1999. My dad actually bought it from us because it was such a jewel.

2.) Paid off some debt!
We were able to pay off some things to make for extra monthly income (to be able to buy a car). We did this by using some financial principles we learned from my brother-in-law's class at church. I actually had some retirement from teaching that I never touched. If you use this formula thing ;) my brother-in-law teaches about, it is more profitable to pay off debt than to let interest build up. After hearing it all, it was like DUH!

3.) Coupons, coupons, coupons!!!
Discovering the money saving, coupon clippin, deal seeking blog community has truly been the most fabulous thing to me. It has completely changed things. We have more and spend less!!! I could go on and on and on and on and onnnnnnnnnnnn.....about the benefits of this! I am so grateful. It is so true about the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. It does not matter how much we are given, because we are all given something. What matters? What we do with what we have been given matters. That has changed my mindset drastically! The person given one talent hid it in the ground, because he thought he had nothing (Matthew 25:25). How many times do we do that? He was called a wicked and lazy servant (Matthew 25:26). Wow! So, Clayton and I have been trying to apply this principle and it is really working.

4.) My sister-in-law is a coupon diva now!
This is great. We can keep each other up on the deals. It is fun and provides a common bond. We both love a "shopper's high" after you get some great deals. Love it!

5.) Many other things to be thankful for! God has been good through some of the most devastating circumstances in the last 6 months. We just have to keep giving our heart to Him, no matter the condition.

XOXO,
Katie

Kroger Run! I heart the Mega Event! Musings of Coupon Divas

Total OOP: $9.23 which $4.56 was tax and I got back a $4 catalina for glade! My total savings including Kroger and Man q was $91.83!!

The crazy thing is I did not have a plan for this one. I went with my Erica (my sister-in-law,a recruited coupon diva), who had planned some Glade/Mega event deals. I came up with these deals with her help!

We had a great time. One hilarious story was about the nail saver sponges. I had read about the free nail saver sponges and printed out q's, but they were all gone last time I went to the store. So, I had printed out 10 (because they are part of mega event) to bring with me for this night. So while she was on the gGade aisle plotting her fabulous deals, I went to look for the sponges. To my delight, there were tons!! I grabbed 10 up in my arms (she had the buggy) and pretty much came running down the aisle saying "free sponges, money maker" haaa, priceless. Needless to say, I then needed my own buggy as I plotted my own coupon diva deals. I am so glad Erica is into coupons too. We both know this is an addiction that we can have with no shame. We love the rush of the deals. By the way, her total was 88 cents with a $4 catalina! I love it all!

Oh and by the way, I loved it when I came home and my husband's eyes got big as he said, "You got ALL THIS for $9"! ;)
